Mexico
Mexico missions began at the Evangelical Free Church of Grand Island in 2000 with a group of eight members traveling to the mountain village of Aquilastec, Hidalgo, Mexico. Our vision was to come alongside the Evangelical Free Churches of Mexcio (FIEL) and also Pastor Dionicio Hernandez Alvarez, to provide support of the local churches and aid in spreading the Word throughout the mountains of central Mexico.

In 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004, teams from Grand Island were able to complete the construction of the "True Vine Evangelical Free Church" in Aquilastec. Unfortunately, the local pastor passed away and without anyone to step up and take over his duties, the church was taken over by other groups. Teams have continued to visit Aquilastec in an effort to maintain those relationships. This has come to be a very rewarding time for team members.
In 2005, construction began on a worship/training facility in the town of Tlanchinol, Hidalgo, Mexico. In 2006, 2007 and 2008 teams from Grand Island, Omaha, Lincoln and Broken Bow worked together on this project. With the gift of a grant, our hope is to complete this project in the year 2009.
Eric and June Petersen are our missionaries to Mexico through the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA). Eric and June have been serving in Latin American countries for over 20 years. Currently, they are based in Kearney, Nebraska to aid and assist teams in their preparations for short-term work in Mexico. Their time is divided between the USA and Mexico.

Teams are open to adults that attend the Grand Island Evangelical Free Church and consider it their church home. Our teams begin to form around the first of the year and meet on a regular basis before our July/August trip. Our primary focus is light construction. In addition to the construction, children's Vacation Bible School and women's Bible studies are presented daily.
